My hopes for the new year

I hope every one's New Year is starting off on a good note.

Mine............not so much! I started getting a cold the Sunday after Christmas, the day we celebrated with our family.  I have had such a nasty cold for 2 weeks, my energy level has been 0.  Every time I coughed a sharp pain would shoot through my head and my ribs would hurt. When it moved to my head I had vertigo so bad that I only felt good when I was laying down. I'm a mess! The only thing I've managed to get done in two weeks is take some of the Christmas decorations down and vacuum after our party. My trees are undecorated but they are waiting to be put away. And because I was sick and because the weather forecast called for rain, ice and snow along our route to Iowa, we had to cancel our annual trip back home to see the grandkids. We're going to wait until the weather is nicer to make the trip!

I got off track there, anyway, the totes are spread out in the basement waiting for a home. I don't want to put them away until I've made one final pass through them. My plan was to organize my Christmas decorations again this year and see if I can eliminate a few more totes. My quest for organizing and purging continues.  I feel a bit better today, so I may be on the down slide.

Have any of you made any New Years resolutions for 2016? I usually don't make any, to me, that just invites failure. But, like every one else I'm sure, I try to think about changes that I hope to make during the new year, or continue doing those things I've discovered that make me a better me.

Like making time for myself. At the end of 2015 I started riding my stationery bike 17 miles a day, 3 times a week. I'm going to continue that and then some.

Last year my husband and I both started to slow down a bit. Just taking  time to live life, spending Saturdays together, just the two of us, driving to wherever looking for places to stop to go antiquing or junking. Spending more time tending to my gardens and actually enjoying the process instead of thinking of it as a mundane chore. I actually learned to embrace it and even planted some herbs in a large pot so I had fresh basil and oregano to put in my home made spaghetti sauce, and the fresh rosemary is amazing in my chicken dishes! Making sure all of the important things get done and not obsess over the things that don't

I do have a list of things that I want to start up again.......

Read more. I suppose this could go under making time for myself. But I have got to get back to reading..........is there anything better than curling up to a good book on a wintery day?!

Paint. I want to start back into painting acrylics and learn to paint with oils. This is my year for that..........I need to start painting and creating art.

And one thing I want to learn.........for sure, even if I have to take classes

Photography. I've always been intrigued and  my husband bought me a beautiful camera for my birthday last year and I have to learn how to use it without relying on auto! I'm excited about this!

So, are there any changes you want to make for the New Year?
