Readying for a new year

Things have finally settled down here, the holidays are behind us, the hustle and bustle trying to get everything ready for Christmas is over, and our surprise visitors left Sunday morning before the weather got too bad. We had so much fun celebrating New Year's Eve together. We will never find better friends, who else would drive 13 hours just to spend the weekend with us? They made it home safe and sound just before their weather turned really nasty!

Sunday after our friends left we did nothing, I stayed in my pj's all day long and it felt marvelous:)

Yesterday and today I have been slowly taking down what little Christmas decorations I used this year, cleaning as I go. I didn't have much time to decorate like I usually do, but I really liked the simpler look. I just put my trees up and my collection of Santa's stretched across the top of our TV center. And sat my collection of oil lamps on the mantle with pinecones and greenery. That's it. I had white candles sitting everywhere I needed a little glow.

We didn't get to enjoy the Christmas lights for very long so I just took all the ornaments off the trees and will enjoy the soft yellow glow from the lights for just a little longer.

We did a little after Christmas shopping and I found these pine candle rings for 50% off, I bought three large and three small ones. I generally don't decorate with faux greenery but these look so real, and seriously, the real greenery doesn't last long before the needles start falling off. I will leave the pine candle rings around my candles and the winter berries in my ironstone pitcher until Spring.

Along with my beautiful white Poinsettia that sits in a perfect spot in the guest bedroom. Just a hint of winter decor.

And the glow of my hurricane lamps help keep that cozy feeling I love when it is snowing and blowing outside. Not to mention that they come in handy in case the power goes off:)

And a warm cozy fire.....

Now I'm ready for 2015!
