Notre Dame Cathedral, Paris

The cathedral is widely considered to be one of the finest examples French Gothic architechture and it is among the largest and most well-known church buildings in the world.--Wikipedia

Groundbreaking for Notre Dame was 1163, and was completed in 1345 but was subjected to vandalism, alterations and restorations due to damage caused by the French Revolution and WWII.

In 1991 a major program of maintenance and restoration was initiated and was expected to take 10 years, but was still in progress as of 2010. Cleaning and restoring old sculptures is a very tedious and delicate job. In 2014 much of the lighting was upgraded to LED lights.
