To my loyal followers:)

It's been almost 2 months since I've written a post on my blog and I must say that I have missed it a lot. I have been wondering if it is something I want to continue. Don't get me wrong, I love writing this blog and I have been doing it since February 13th, 2009! But in that time I have not accumulated a lot of followers, I guess it's because I don't join all the blog parties and I don't follow a lot of blogs myself.

I started writing this blog so my friends back in Iowa could keep up with what I was doing! When we moved to Ohio almost 20 years ago (yikes!!) I left behind some of the best friends I will ever find. One of the of the things we all had in common was our love of decorating, and even though our budgets were limited, we enjoyed junking and refurbishing our treasures. It was out of necessity that we shop at local auctions, there weren't that many junk shops back then so out resources were pretty limited. Because I always worked just part time outside the home, I did a lot of refinishing for other people so I always had something that I was working on. I guess that's where my love of old things came from, I probably refinished every piece of furniture (which wasn't a whole lot!) in our home just to make it look beautiful. I seemed to be the "go to" girl for painting or decorating advice, and I loved it. So, when I moved that all went away too! But from time to time I would get a call from someone asking me advice on paint color choices so I would go through magazines and find the colors that I think they'd like, go to the paint store and pick out the paint chips and mail them samples. I guess it made me feel important, whether they truly needed my advice or not, that's just what they did:)

When I started working in an unfinished furniture store here in Ohio I discovered my creative side and I started experimenting with paints. I painted everything...........canvas floor cloths, wall hangings, furniture etc. you name it, I went a little crazy! When I found my niche' I started painting and selling my wares like Pennsylvania Dutch Dower Chests and small Heirloom boxes and had several stores in the area selling for me. So, I guess that made my Iowa friends even more curious so I just decided to start writing a blog so they could check out what I was working on. And that is how all this started.

I was hoping to attract a lot of followers and maybe make a "career" out of blogging but, honestly, there are so many decorating blogs now that I just got chewed up and spit out! I can't keep up with them and I really don't know how they do it! I have accumulated a few pieces of furniture that I want to refurbish, but the problem is, what do I do with them when they're done? It's an issue, I can't buy any more projects until I sell the ones I have! And to be honest (again) I'm burnt out and I have been going through this "I need a change, is there something more," kind of a funk lately. My creative juices have stopped flowing (although I have managed to squeak a little out for a small table I have been working on, just to get it DONE!) I hope this doesn't last:(

I think I am going to keep writing my blog for a while longer, not to necessarily show you my projects, but to just talk and to share anything interesting that I run across that you might find useful. I have shared ideas and decorating tips from time to time, but if I'm going to keep writing, I need to add a new dimension. Bare with me while I ride this "funk" out!!

Thank you to my friends who do follow me, for being patient:)

  1. My dear friend---I will always "ride with you"! No matter how you decide to achieve your dreams. Even if you decide to no longer blog----I still have the privilege of being more than just one of your followers--we are in it for life and that is something to "blog" about! Keep the creative juices flowing!!!! Love you :) Deb

  3. I feel the same way about my blog, Rhonda. Not that I worry about having followers, I just don't seem to have the time to update it like I should, and don't feel I have anything interesting to say anyway!
Looking forward to seeing you in a week. Maybe by then, both of us will muster up our mojo, and be back at it again.
