Distressed headboard made from old shutters!

This is an old pair of shutters that I hinged together to make a screen, I painted them and distressed them a lot. I didn't have any use for them anymore and I didn't know what to do with them until my daughter told me she needed a headboard for her bed. My daughters' bedroom has slanted ceilings on both sides and the way the bed has to sit, there wasn't any room for their previous headboard. I told her about the shutters and we decided to try and make a headboard for her bed.

The could only be so high and they weren't quite wide enough so we cut them in half, took another piece off the discarded side and added one more panel to the side to make it 5 panels across, perfect for her queen size bed. We took 2 x 4's and screwed them to the back of the shutters to make "legs" for it to stand on and make it tall enough to just fit under her slanted ceiling.

To make it good and sturdy my hubby added a 1 x 4 along the bottom.

He added another piece of wood so the  2 x 4 would be even with the bottom

Screwed them all in place.

 gorgeous distressed headboard!

And it didn't cost her a thing!

    1. Thank you! It was the only solution for a slanted ceiling, they couldn't have a very high headboard. I think it turned out pretty well, it was easy too!
